What can exercise do for you?
Updated: Sep 19, 2020
Exercise… we all know that we need to do it, but it is really hard to commit to every day. We think of it as a chore after a long day of work. We tell ourselves we don’t have the time. We would much rather spend our time catching up on the latest episode of “The Bachelor” than running on a treadmill for 30 minutes. This all can change by realizing the true importance of exercise and what you can do for your body. Your body is amazing and, of course, has its limits. Feeding it fatty foods and denying it of daily activity can make it shut down earlier than you would like. Read on to learn how you can assure that you are getting enough exercise.
Stress Relief
Life is stressful. One of the best ways to combat stress is to exercise. By releasing this negative energy in the form of physical activity, your body receives an influx of endorphins and positive energy. When you are getting enough physical activity, your overall health begins to improve. You will notice better sleeping patterns and maybe even more restful sleep. I, like a lot of people, toss and turn at night and sometimes even have restless legs. This makes it difficult to fall asleep and even harder to stay asleep. By working out and stretching my muscles every day, I feel more tired near bedtime and I get much needed restful sleep. Exercise to improve sleep is best done in the morning. Wake up 20 minutes earlier and go for a walk or do a morning yoga routine. This will start your day on a fresh and energized note.
Healthy Choices
If you are like most people in the world, you indulged in the sweet and salty treats this holiday season. And no this is not going to be a request for you to change your new year’s resolution to exercise. Making exercise a timed resolution makes it easier to quit. You should instead be mindful of how your body feels every day. Lesson one is to not beat yourself up if you can not make it to the gym or if you have a seasonal cold. Make sure you rest your body and pay attention to those signs. Rather than a one-year goal, health and wellness should be a lifetime goal. Remember, it is all about the journey. So this year, start the lifelong pact with yourself to make healthier choices and to choose the gym over the couch, just for 45 minutes a day!
The Takeaway
In conclusion, being proactive in exercise and health can make all of the life chores that much easier. Furthermore, you are sure to have more energy, and more motivation to get up in the morning to start the day.
